SPRA Chairman, Mike Crook

Crook MMike has a wealth of commercial experience and expertise in roofing and cladding having spent 24 years working for SSQ and Eternit.  Mike’s vision is to inspire roofers, architects and contractors to maximise the use of roof space to include amenity, biodiversity and energy capture.  SPRA membership means a key opportunity to contribute to the development of and best practice within the single ply roofing market and to make a positive contribution to creating a sustainable built environment.

Jim HookerJim Hooker was technical director of British Flat Roofing Council from 1994 to 2000 before setting up his own consultancy. He provides all technical administrative and financial support to SPRA. "The excellent reputation of single ply is down to high quality materials and their supply only to properly trained installers. It's my job to ensure that relationship is maintained positively in an expanding market".

Talman-James-2012James Talman is an independent management consultant to the SPRA with over 25 years executive experience in the UK roofing industry both in supply and installation. In the more recent past he is known for founding and establishing Protan (UK) as a significant contributor in the single ply roofing sector. He has wide experience of most polymers in the single ply sector. His objectives for the development of SPRA are as follows:- ‘An effective trade association is one that provides first class impartial advice and information within its scope of knowledge to all stakeholders, is constantly adding value to its members and users through its initiatives, is inclusive in its approach to attracting members, is actively lobbying for UK jobs and investment in this key roofing sector and presents clear reasons why its sector and members should the roofs and companies of first choice’

Anthony Carlyle

I joined IKO in 2005 to manage the Spectraroof Division and I am now responsible for the single ply business for Europe. This is my second time as a member of the Council and hope to help make a positive difference to the industry in the challenging times ahead.”

Nigel has worked for Sarnafil and Sika for 24 years with his first 10 years very successfully covering the North East and Ireland in a sales role for Sarnafil. He then moved into a Technical Manager role for the next 7 years, followed by a position as Technical Director of Sarnafil.
More recently Nigel was Business Unit Manager for the Sarnafil and Sika-Trocal brands before taking up his current role as Head of Technical and Product Development in Sika’s Roofing Business Unit (Sarnafil, Trocal and Liquid Plastics). He is also a member of the Sika Roofing Corporate Expert Team, which has global responsibility for developing Sika’s roofing products.
Nigel studied Construction Technology and Management at Newcastle University and was Chair of the SPRA Technical Committee and a Council member for four years. He also represented the Single Ply industry on the Part L amendments and additionally the British Standards and European Standards committees for waterproofing membranes (TC254 and SC2) and fire (FSH/22/8).

Jonathan has over twenty seven years experience of the roofing industry, having previously worked for William Cox roof lights & Rockwool Insulation. His current role as European Sales Manager is with fall protection manufacturer, Latchways plc.
 
 
   

Tony Millichap

Tony Millichap“I have worked in and around the flat roofing industry for approximately 15 years and held a number of senior positions in contracting and commercial roles, most recently closing the loop with my appointment to Technical Manager with Kingspan Insulation. In my experience our industry provides a new challenge everyday and is constantly changing, my involvement with SPRA helps influence this change.”

"I have been on the SPRA Council since 2006, currently as Chair of Contractor Representatives. In between work, I enjoy the odd cycle challenge, having completed Lands End to John O'Groats and 2 stages of the Tour de France in Etape 2007."

Pretty Derek web“I am Contracts Director of Southampton based Elliotts Premier Roofing Ltd. and have been involved with flat roofing since 1976 and single ply in particular since the mid 1980’s. I have always believed in maintaining high standards and good practice and would like to see these applied throughout our industry. SPRA would seem to be the way to achieve this. In the current economic climate we need to promote SPRA, its benefits and the use of members on projects to avoid poor quality installations and subsequent loss of confidence in the product.”
   

Martyn Holloway

Martyn Holloway
Martyn is Business Development Manager/Flat Roof Applications Manager for fastener manufacturer SFS Intec Ltd responsible for the development of the flat roofing product range and flat roofing business development in the UK.  He has more than 25 years experience within the roofing industry, previously working as Roofing Product Manager for Rockwool.
