Why you should specify SPRA
and how to achieve a successful
project
Your objectives
You want the client vision to be delivered on time and on-budget. During the construction phase you will want to achieve:
- Effective waterproofing of the roof quickly and early in
programme, so that internal fit-out can move ahead.
- A specialist sub-contractor who understands your project, is
safe, organised and requires minimum supervision.
- A roof system that:
- Has a good track record.
- Is compatible with other elements and simple to install.
- Can be tested for integrity.
- Is adaptable to late change, for example due to Building
Regulations Part L.

Reducing risk
For
least risk to your project:
- Make full use of the product support offered by the SPRA
membrane manufacturers.
- Coordinate roofing and M&E trades by technical collaboration
at an early stage.
- Arrange effective roof protection and clear responsibility for
maintaining it until PC.
- Sequence the work to avoid potentially disruptive following
trades such as brickwork or rendering.
- Check the training credentials of installers.
Product supply and
support
SPRA
membrane manufacturers must:
- Supply only to registered specialist contractors employing
trained labour.
- Carry out a recorded inspection of the completed work if a
warranty is to be offered.
Training
- There is a UK-wide network of installers who have been trained
in the use of each particular product.
- SPRA Membrane manufacturers must maintain a training database,
with cards issued to installers.
- Training courses must be comprehensive, approved by SPRA and
delivered off-site.
