Nominate someone who deserves a place on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List!

I am sure that within our membership, there are many people that do extraordinary things –to support our industry perhaps by championing training, H&S or quality standards and pushing the boundaries with volunteering efforts in their private lives.

CPA are managing the application process for our industry, so if you have anyone you think deserves to be put forward can you please read the attached guidance, complete the citation form and send to Diana Montgomery  ( diana.montgomery@constructionproducts.org.uk ) ahead of the Tuesday 3rd October deadline.  Diana’s team are happy to help with completion of applications.

KEY POINTS FOR CONSIDERATION

The Honours system recognises people who have made achievements in public life and the Cabinet Office has been clear that we have a responsibility to ensure that Honours reflect the diversity of the population at large, and sets targets to reflect this.

CPA need your help to make this happen, to ensure that our nominations include a greater proportion of female candidates, particularly at the higher level, and to increase the representation of ethnic minority candidates.

To ensure our nominations better reflect diversity, we have been asked for:-

At least 9% of our Group nominees to be from a BAME background
At least 35% of our non-state nominees to be female
BEIS is looking for candidates who have made an outstanding contribution in their field of expertise and not just performed well in their paid employment.  We are seeking candidates who have undertaken activities promoting the interests of the wider community (for example, any voluntary or charitable work and, at the highest levels, people who have really made a difference both nationally and internationally).

All nominees will be expected to have some details in the Voluntary and Charitable Services section.  This can be any wider contribution beyond what would be expected of the nominee’s paid role e.g. active participation (with examples of success) in an umbrella organisation for their sector/area of business.  This should be identified under the separate heading towards the end of the Long Citation box on the Citation Form, rather than mentioned in the midst of their paid work.

At MBE and BEM levels, there is a need to identify good candidates from a full cross-section of the population.  It is desirable to find candidates from areas that have not in the past had the recognition they deserve.
