Quality criteria

All about the quality criteria that are a condition of membership. Compliance is checked by initial and annual audit.

Membrane manufacturers

  • Production control system in conformance with ISO9000.
  • All membrane product to be certified by British Board of Agrément or BRE Global
  • Comprehensive design manual relevant to UK conditions and construction practice.
  • Indemnification for design advice.
  • Must design and install in accordance with alt SPRA Design Guide.
  • Suitably trained field and technical support staff.
  • Dedicated off-site training facility with training programme and assessment subject to approval by SPRA Council.
  • Must maintain a database of individuals trained to install particular products, with a suitable identity card of maximum life five years.
  • Minimum 10 year guarantee on product and attachment.
  • System of recorded site inspections to medium and large sites and all projects where a guarantee is to be offered.
  • Private residential sector only: must operate a system of contractor self-certification backed up by random inspection by manufacturer to ensure high quality installation.

Associates

  • Production system in conformance with ISO9000.
  • Products to conform to relevant British and European Standards.
  • Products to conform to SPRA Quality Scheme for the particular product type (as appropriate)
  • Dedicated test facility in the United Kingdom.
  • Must work in accordance with SPRA Design Guide.
  • Indemnification for design advice.
  • Minimum 10 year guarantee on product.
  • Suitably trained field and technical support staff.

Contractor

  • Quality management system registered or accredited to BS EN ISO 9001 or 9002 as appropriate.
  • Comprehensive records of training achievement.
  • License or approval to receive and install membrane product.
  • Must work in accordance with current version of  alt SPRA Design Guide.
  • Active programme of training assessment to National or Scottish Vocational Qualification level II (Applied waterproof membranes – single ply roofing)
  • Must be trained in the installation of at least one manufacturer member’s single ply product
 
Audit process
 
All members are required to complete an annual audit return. This seeks information on office and site procedures, records of training, current insurance, accident statistics and financial status. The information provided is used to establish the member's compliance; it is totally confidential to the SPRA Director.
In addition, spot-checks are carried out on site to check training credentials and monitoring by the manufacturer.
SPRA will arrange a spot check free of charge if you believe the rules are not being followed.
