Freedom of form - Single ply technology offers maximum freedom of choice in roof design, performance and appearance to suit new construction and refurbishment.

Complete roof system - Single ply membranes are strong, flexible sheets composed predominately of synthetic polymer. Thickness is in the range 1.1mm to 2mm. Some products are homogeneous, others reinforced with glass fibre or polyester, depending upon the application. They are sealed at joints to form continuous waterproofing. When combined with insulation and continuous support they form complete, durable roof systems.

Types of system – there are two types of arrangement of components – ‘warm deck’ and ‘inverted warm deck’. The technical flexibility of single ply means that there are several combinations of system type and method of attachment to suit particular design conditions.

SPRA does not recommend the use of ‘cold deck’ roofs (where the insulation is placed below the deck) because they require ventilation and it is difficult to control condensation.

Durable - All members' products are independently certificated for durability in the range 25-40 years. There are mainland European working examples in excess of 40 years; in the UK our earliest projects will soon be this old.

Performance - All single polymeric materials offered by SPRA members are resistant to weathering, chemical oxidation and UV radiation. They require no additional surface protection unless used for access. Careful formulation ensures that physical properties are retained over a temperature range exceeding –300C to +800C to suit the variable climate typical of the UK.
