On the 11th of October, SPRA membrane members joined forces once again to discuss big industry issues and agree actions to influence, educate and support the sector. Held during UKCW, the workshop session was part of the ongoing programme of events and activities organised by the executive team to ensure that members are central to decision-making and strategic business planning. Contribution from all areas of the membership is vital and this workshop proved the perfect opportunity share best practice, raise concerns and consider all views and experiences on a series of topics. On the basis of these discussions, the SPRA team will be working up new guidance across areas of site safety, training standards and site inspections. Members were also introduced to Phase 2 of the Waste Recycling project that SPRA has commissioned with Axion Consultancy. They also agreed a strategy for raising awareness about the new SPRA online training and assessment tool that was launched at the SPRA conference. Rebecca Larkin from the CPA rounded off the day with an interesting economic presentation. It was unsettling to hear that the government consider Construction as a ‘low priority’ sector and also they estimate that approximately 60% of construction labour in London is from the EU.
